How to write your speech
[[file:Civil War Debate Themes:Graphic Organizer.pdf]]
Above is a link to the graphic organizer to help you plan out your speech.
You have 1 minute 30 seconds to speak. No extra time will be given.
Your speech typed in Times 12pt font will be about 3/4's of a page.
You are welcome to write your entire speech beforehand and read from this during the debate.
Focus on the events/themes that support your team's stance on if the North and South should be two separate countries.
Mention at least 3 facts to help prove your point.
Practice your speech at least 6 times.
You should write and perform the speech 'in character.'
Feel free to call out your opponent for something they did prior to 1861.
If you go first on your team you will want to have an introduction paragraph (introduce your team's position)
If you go last on your team you will want to have a concluding paragraph (sum up your team's position).
Have your speech written the week before the debate so that your team can give you feedback on it in class.
Have fun with this process and only do what you feel comfortable doing.
